Welcome to the daily devotional!

This blog began with the goal of posting daily for a year. Now, only 50 days to go, and it has been a sweet and special time of fellowship with the Lord. Each day, I look for His presence in my life, to see what He wants me to write. Thanks to those of you who have shared this walk with me. I hope that as He strengthens my walk with Him that He accomplishes the same in your lives.

Monday, July 12: Help, I need somebody!

I remember seeing a television commercial with a young man standing on the dock of a lake. In the lake, was a drowning friend, calling for help, yet the young man on the dock ignored the cries. The advertisement was attempting to demonstrate that when you have a friend with a drug problem and you don’t tell parents or friends, you are no different than the young man on the dock. People who are jeopardizing their lives need help.

In the same manner, we all need a Savior. Salvation is the deliverance from destruction, and every person born is on a fast path toward destruction. Yet salvation is not only the deliverance, but the Deliverer from that destruction! Jesus gives us the gift of salvation, but never lose sight of the fact that He is our salvation! The gift that He gives to us is Him! It says in John:

13 "Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.
John 15:13

That is exactly what Jesus did for us; He died so we do not have to!

Remember, salvation is:

• Something we cannot do alone.

• Something we cannot do for others.

• A debt paid. Because sin must be paid for, Jesus paid it for us.

• Blood money! His blood is worth more than any amounts of gold or silver.

• Enough to satisfy all of our debts.

• Something that cannot be received without asking for it!

Jesus is the Door, the Gate and the Way. Notice that all of those nouns are singular. He is the only path for us to heaven.

"Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
Revelation 3:20

Anyone can come into the presence of Jesus by accepting Him into their hearts. He stands at the door of our hearts and knocks, and we decide whether or not to let Him in. If we ask Him in, He is not like a visiting relative. They say that visiting relatives and fish will both go bad in three days. Jesus comes in and stays forever! God died for man. That is not legend—it is truth. If He is the truth and He lives in us, we are keepers of the truth. Are you missing Jesus in your life? Do you have friends that desperately need a Savior? Are you afraid to tell them, as they might think you are crazy? If they were drowning, would you give them a hand?

"There is none righteous, no, not one;
Romans 3:10
